College football is one of the most popular sports in the nation. To some people it is almost a religion. College stadiums often fill up with more attendees than professional sports and the atmosphere is just electric. One such college football program located on the west coast is the California Golden Bears men’s football team located at the University of California, Berkeley.

The California Golden Bears play in the Pac – 10 conference and play all of their home games in the California memorial stadium. The team also has a total of 5 national championships as well as 14 titles in their conference. They have a rich history of winning and also some of footballs most memorable plays including the “Big Game” in 1982 when the team won the game with a kickoff return that included 5 laterals.

The men’s football team originated in 1886 but was stopped from 1906 to 1915 because the school thought it was too dangerous of a sport to play. The University has had a team ever since 1915 and look forward to have many more years of good football.

In the 1920’s, the California Golden Bears were unstoppable. They had a streak of 50 straight wins in the five year period from 1920 to 1925 and are third in the NCAA to go this far without being beaten. The teams during this period were all considered to be Wonder Teams and included players like Brick Muller. The coach over these teams was Andy Smith.
